Tacos and Taco Salad

In an effort to make something new for dinner I decided to make tacos/taco salad.  My husband would have tacos and I would have the salad.  My dad had made tacos in July and reminded me of how good they are.  The reason I don't normally make them is that the seasoning bought in those packets in the store just aren't that great for me.  Besides the fact that there are a bunch of chemicals and preservatives in the packet, taco seasoning has been giving me a stomachache for the last 15 years or so.  Hence, I don't make it very often.

But that will all change because of my discovery: homemade taco seasoning!  I googled.  I found a recipe where I had (almost) all the ingredients.  I made it.  It was delicious and I felt fine afterward.  This recipe was a little less spicy than the stuff I remember but my husband liked it well enough.  Go here to see the recipe I used.  I did not have red pepper flakes so I used red pepper.  I did not have sea salt so I used salt.  Now that I know I like it, maybe I will buy the real ingredients and see if it is even better.  The recipe includes instructions for adding it to the meat.

When added to the meat.  Yum.

My finished taco salad right before consumption.  I used sweet potato chips and they were yummy but you have to buy the right kind.  There is one sweet potato chip that is good for salsa (Food Should Taste Good brand) and there is another sweet potato chip that is good as a chip (that stuff you buy at Fry's).  On this salad I threw cucumber, tomato, green onion, cheese, salsa and meat.  It was fabulous!

  1. Looks yummy. I'll get the recipe and try it out. I also like lettuce for my taco salad. "Wednesday's Wars" is awaiting me at the library.
