Harvest Time

Whew!  My mind can finally rest at ease.  After a 5 week hiatus, life has finally calmed down enough for me to be able to sew.  Can you believe that I ever went that long without sewing?  Neither can I.  Thankfully, that time has passed and hopefully will not be seen again soon.  Though I am still busy and I still have boxes to unpack and there is still organizing to do, today was the day.  I thought, 'if I don't sew today I am going to blow up!'  Yes, it was that dramatic.

In July, on my way home from Los Angeles, I stopped at one of my new favorite quilt stores, Three Dudes Quilting (mom, you are so jealous!).  It is right off the freeway in the Phoenix area and they have unique fabric and I always find something there I haven't seen in other places.  And they always have fresh, homemade cookies in multiple flavors for their customers.  So I got this fabric there because I loved the colors, which, of course, are mutilated by my camera and doesn't do them justice.  I'm sure you can imagine it though.

So I bought the fabric without a project in mind and two days ago I sat down and designed this quilt.  I made sure I had enough fabric (hah!) and got to work.  The effect I was going for was that the pictures would all be "floating" in the brown fabric.  Alas, that was not what happened, but I still think the quilt is adorable.  I have plenty of ideas on how to change the pattern and I can try that on a different quilt.

Here is a close up of the pictures.  I just thought they were so cute and, you might think I'm crazy, inspiring.  Inspiring in a purely creative way, mind you.  When I saw the fabric I thought, 'I could design a quilt pattern that would be perfect for that fabric' and off I went to the register.

As luck would have it, I did run out of fabric.  However, my local Hancock Fabrics was kind enough to have a very similar brown that I could use as the binding for this quilt.  Lucky, lucky.  This quilt is actually the very first decoration/quilt/picture that I have hung in our new apartment so it was hard to pick a place.  But I settled on one of the most frequented parts of our new home; no, not the bathroom!  the kitchen, silly.
