Salsa Verde with Avocado

My good friend and I exchanged Christmas gifts this year and she got me the hand blender that I asked for.  I originally put it on my list to make lentil soup (and other soups) but was looking for an easy recipe to try it out on.  I found this salsa verde with avocado recipe that looked very easy.

I got my ingredients including fresh tomatillos, a jalapeno, an avocado, cilantro and a lime.  I husked the tomatillos and cut them into smaller chunks.  I followed the recipe except I didn't add the salt because I wanted to give it to the babies (we are doing low sodium for them right now) but I did add some pepper (I didn't measure).
Here are the ingredients before mixing.  I happened to carmelize the onion because I was putting 1/2 the onion into a salad for a funeral.  I don't think the carmelization made much difference in the taste.
Here is the finished product.  I don't like it because it has hardly any flavor.  Maybe that's because there's no salt or maybe I just don't like salsa verde.  There's a little too much cilantro for my taste too.  Our Boomer really enjoyed it but the others shunned it.  If I make it again I will put a ton more spices into it including garlic and onion powder, cumin, pepper, and paprika.
