Cookie Stamps

Over the summer I went shopping a lot, typical of a housewife on vacation.  It seemed that everywhere I turned I saw cookie stamps.  The first time I saw them I thought 'that's cute, but it seems expensive, and does it really work anyway?'  As I kept seeing them, my resolve dwindled and eventually I caved and bought one.  Then I bought another one because it was so cool.  One is more traditional and one is more historic.

I made my fabulous Spritz cookie recipe, an old family favorite, to try these out.  Just roll your dough into balls and smash!  That was the best part.  Can you see the designs?  After I flattened the cookies I put them in the fridge before baking them.  This cools and hardens the butter so the cookies don't spread as much in the heat.  This was in an effort to maintain the intricate design on the cookies.

Here is the finished product.  I was happy with the way they turned out and they are delicious, but I think I could find a way to help the design stay more crisp through the baking process.  It could also be that a different recipe works better.  In any case, I'm glad I bought these cookie stamps and could try them out.  Maybe next time I'll add sprinkles; everything's better with sprinkles.

  2. I've never even heard of cookie stamps. Sounds like I may have to run across the street to Micheal's
