I was given a task to make something using 2.5 inch strips to bring in to my local quilt shop for the bingo game I'm playing. Well, I don't usually do anything with 2.5 inch strips so I consulted the Internet for some pattern ideas. I found a site that had free patterns for leftover jelly roll pieces (if you are not a quilter you can google this or pretend that you know what it is; it really doesn't matter whether you do or not) and I found this simple pattern for placemats. I even had the perfect fabrics (after careful consideration of my Christmas fabrics).
Here is my layout. I included this picture so that you would all know I wasn't perfect. You might notice that my white strip near the bottom is not the same size as the others. That's because I cut it wrong. I actually did it with two of the strips. This means that my placemats are an inch shorter than I originally planned. That's okay though; they are still big enough.
Here is the finished placemat with binding (I made two). It does look pretty busy because they are all stripes, but I also think that the fabrics go well together. I will try to sell these and if not, I have someone I want to give them to for Christmas.
Here is a close up of the fabrics. Yes, those are apples with holly berries and holly leaves. Don't ask me: my mom bought it. And please notice that the only design that is upside down is the candy cane. I found this to be very odd.
