I was able to get the pattern for this little quilt when my mom and I went to Indiana last year. I took it to add to my things to purchase and my mom said something like, 'I want that pattern too,' and I said, 'I'll just make you one.' I'm not sure she remembers this conversation but it helped me decide to make this for her this year.
First I had to find the right fabrics and I went to my fourth of July stash first. I found two fabrics that would work but wasn't sure I had enough of one of them. Here is a picture of the scraps I used. So I started cutting and hoped for the best. Thankfully it was enough.
This is a log cabin star quilt so I laid out my log cabin pieces for easy assembly. I got all of the tans, the red and the lightest blue at the quilt store. This was the last quilt project that I went shopping for this year.
Here is one of the completed log cabins. I made twelve.
Here is the basic quilt top without borders. I really love it.
And here it is completed with borders and quilting. I was on my last legs (figuratively) in my pregnancy by the time I was quilting this little guy. I spent about ten minutes a day once a week which was all I could manage and I was only about 20 weeks at the time. Still, I think it turned out great and can't wait to make one for myself.
That is a beautiful quilt!
