So my mom made me some maternity dresses that are obviously too big now. I know I could save them but, in reality, I don't really want to wear them ever again even if I did get pregnant. I actually gave them all away except one. I really liked these purple polka dots and knew I could alter the dress into a skirt. Here is the dress.
The first thing I did was cut off the bodice. Then I tried it on to see what I could do with it. I knew I either had to gather it, put darts in it or sew up the excess fabric on the sides. I knew I was going to use elastic instead of putting in a zipper so that helped me make a decision. What I ended up doing was just creating one very large pleat. It doesn't look like much in the picture but I'm happy with it because it is (a) a skirt that fits me and (b) it is purple with polka dots. What could be better (besides the awesome shirt I'm wearing with it)?!
