A Towel Apron

Do you know how hard it is to get a wet, slippery baby out of the bathtub without getting yourself ridiculously wet?  I'm sure most of you do...in fact I'm sure it just gets harder as they get older.  I pondered my predicament and thought, 'what if I could wear a towel?'  I was thinking I could just hold a towel with my chin as I get the baby out but that proved awkward and logistically difficult.  So I daydreamed a little and came up with the towel apron.  I knew I could get terry cloth at Joann's so I went to check it out.

They didn't have any cool colors so I just got boring yellow.  The woman at the cutting counter asked me what I was making and I told her and her first reaction was, "that'll never work," followed by a plethora of sentences about why it wouldn't work and didn't I know that babies get water everywhere, etc.  Thanks a lot lady.  It hasn't been very often that I could be creative and have an idea of my own and it was slightly disheartening to hear it shot down by a total stranger; especially since I really thought this was a good idea and I really, really wanted it to work.

Despite being shot down, I still made my towel apron and I've used it for about a month now and I have to say that I'm very glad I made it.  At this point in my life it has been very useful.  Maybe as the years go by it won't be so fabulous, but right now I am very happy with my towel apron (much to the dismay of the lady at the cutting counter, I'm sure).

It's a very basic pattern which is good since the cloth got pretty thick in places and wasn't too fun to work with.  But it is so nice to be able to take it off after baths and still be relatively dry.
