Now what in the world would a stereotypical Mormon housewife do all day if she didn't know how to quilt??? Who knows! It's what we all do, all the time; quilting bees, handquilting, tieing quilts-we are obsessed, I tell you. So my mom and I went on a quilt shop hop. It's a great little event where area quilt shops get together to offer prizes and give away freebies. Western Washington has such an event and we excitedly took part in it. We traveled to 18 different quilt shops in three days-that's a lot of quilt shops. It is a testimony to our obsession.
We both got a pattern for an 8 x 8 inch block at each store. They also gave either some or all of the fabric to us for free to complete said block. The fabrics were designed and made by fabric manufacturers specifically for this shop hop (a testimony to it's grand scale; most shop hops have about 12 stores total involved-this one had over 50). That's 18 blocks, my friends! Here is just one of them; the first and only one I have made so far. Many more will be coming in the future I'm sure. Now that you know a little bit about shop hops, I'm sure you will be dying to participate in one in your local area.
typical mormon housewives take care of their 80 children all day long when they aren't quilting.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your post-next year, we'll have to go to the northern part of the Shop Hop. Who knows what differences there will be? I would say that Yelm was the biggest surprise for me. And the different views of Mt. Rainier were a special treat to add to the fun. :-}
ReplyDeleteI know Anacortes has one. Jeff and I were there the day after it finished.
