The Transall Saga

I love Gary Paulsen.  Can I say that?  Am I allowed?  The Engligh language is seriously devoid of good adjectives to describe how you can like something so much that you love it, except it's not the same love as my love for my husband.  Ugh...when English doesn't work, just switch to Norwegian: Jeg er veldig glad i Gary Paulsen!  Anyway.  You all know who he is-the fabulous author of Hatchet, which most people my age had to read in 4th-5th grade and maybe were lucky enough to watch the movie that was made in 1990 called "A Cry in the Wild."  Anyway.  I love Hatchet too but that's not what this is about.

I recently re-read The Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen.  He often writes survival stories and this is definitely a survival story, only it is also science fiction, which is awesome!  I love science fiction and survival stories so why not throw them together-you just can't lose.  This novel chronicles Mark's journey through a mysterious blue light to a mysterious new land that is similar to earth.  He learns to survive on his own and then makes contact with the humanoids outside of the forest where he first arrives.  There is no language and some violence (this is a primitive world).  I loved it ten years ago and I still love it; maybe you will too?
