Jane

Here was a gripping read: Jane by April Lindner.  The author really likes Jane Eyre and so attempted this book: a modernization of the old tale by Bronte.  Being the uncultured, uncivilized librarian that I am, I have never read Jane Eyre.  I think I saw the movie once and seem to remember a very unattractive, prim and proper nanny.  If the story of Jane Eyre really is like this modernization that I just finished, then I may have to go back and actually read the original (though I have been warned that the first 11 chapters can drag on a little with character development).

In Jane, Jane Morris goes to work as a nanny for a rock star's child.  It is very gripping.  There is intrigue, romance, mystery and all sorts of shenanigans that somehow maintain the prim and proper nature of the Jane Eyre in my mind.  I would not presume to say that this modernization is better than the original (seeing as I haven't even read it!), only that Jane is a quick read and a good story.  There are about 4 proclamations of that bad word we (stereotypical Mormon housewives, I mean) all despise and there is some illicit sex, so watch out!
