Two weeks ago I bought the necessary ingredients to make white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. After a great debate at work about the wonders of Subway's white chocolate macadamia nut cookies (of which I know nothing about), I decided to try my hand at making these cookies. I had acquired a recipe from a co-worker approximately three semesters ago and was ready to go. I got the dough ready; it was simple enough. I reached to rummage around the cabinet for the white chocolate chips and guess what fell out instead: the open bag of mini chocolate chips.
And guess where they all fell: all over. See all those specks on the floor = ugh.
Here's a close-up of the counter.
And guess where else: right into my white chocolate macadamia nut cookie dough. As far as I knew, mini chips were not in the recipe! At this point I debated 'is it really that important that these become white chocolate macadamia nut cookies? Or are they now destined to become regular chocolate chip cookies?'
Yes, well, I picked out all those mini chips and I swept the floor like a good stereotypical Mormon housewife and I cleaned the counters and then I used the stool (which was about 5 feet away at the time of the great debacle) to find the white chocolate chips.
Here is the lesson to be learned from the great debacle: never put an open bag of mini chocolate chips away until you have sealed it up tight.
The cookies turned out pretty good and consumers raved about them. However, nobody bothered to tell me how my cookies stacked up to Subway's famous white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
What a debacle! Lesson learned! :-}
