This blog will include descriptions of all the really cool stuff I think I do. Maybe you'll think some of it is cool too.

Steel
Introducing Steel by Carrie Vaughn: I just finished reading this swashbuckling tale of piracy and time travel in the Caribbean which occurs all in the compact confines of a teen novel. It is pretty brief while being informative and entertaining. Jill, a competitive fencer from the 21st century manages to find an old and decrepit sword tip on the beach while her family is vacationing in the Bahamas. Through some mystical powers she is transported to the early 18th century to enjoy the life of a pirate. Read this book and watch her transformation from an insecure teenage girl of the 21st century to a capable young woman of the 18th century. Complete with sword fighting, piracy, loyalty, and black magic, you will find this tale a quick and fun read. There is no language but there is violence-the swords were real back in the 1700s, you know.

Just finished it. You were right - it was great. I told your dad that he will enjoy it too, just as you said. Thanks for the great suggestion. Have you read any of her other books? :-}
