Holidays

Housewives were made for holidays...or were holidays made for housewives??? At any rate, holidays are fabulous. When else can you get out all the decorations or the holiday appropriate cookie cutters, quilts, and napkins? And with all this hubbub, it's no wonder that a housewife can't post on her blog! So here are some of the highlights of the holiday season:

Decorations:

I made this forest all by myself.
Here is the light wreath that is traditional in Norway to celebrate the four Sundays of Advent.  They use purple tapers until Christmas Eve when they switch them all out for red.  It is impossible to find real purple tapers in Tucson, so I just use red.

THE TREE
The tree was decorated by my husband and myself.  This "stereotypical" housewife believes that a Christmas tree isn't pretty unless it has presents under it.  Being the fabulous gift wrapper that I am, I wrapped about 15 empty boxes and use them for decoration until I can wrap the real presents.  Pictured are the empty and real gifts, not all of my wrapping.  My husband had the audacity to not put ribbon on my gifts.  Next year, there will be ribbon, I assure you.
Treats:

You saw some of my treats in previous posts.  Here are the cookies that are holiday tradition for this housewife.  Sugar cookies decorated with tips and bags.  It is vital that the sugar cookies be the appropriate holiday shapes.  In the past, I've used UFO's, cars, pigs, fire trucks and hydrants, houses, and the traditional Christmas shapes.  Can you find my rooster?  I happened to get new cookie cutters for Christmas, so next year, we'll have a helicopter!  These cookies are also a fun project for my househusband, who likes to decorate them with me, but not eat them with the same ferocity that I eat them.
Hope your holidays were just as fun and exhausting and emotional as mine.  Now time to decompress, relax and then get ready for the rest of the new year.
