Delirium

Enter a future world where love has been identified as a disease and has been effectively eradicated by the infamous "cure."  Unfortunately, the cure is only available to those over age 18 because of unwanted side-effects.  However, children in this future world are taught that indifference is better than feelings and emotions.  Crying children are ignored, hugs and kisses have vanished from society.  Can you even imagine what it would be like to have no love for anything in your life???  Not only people, but also activities and hobbies?  Upon high school graduation, you will be matched, go to college to study something the government tells you to study, get married after you graduate from college, and have as many kids as the government tells you to have, out of duty of course.  I think Lauren Oliver has successfully created a horrifying world that helps the reader to appreciate the many loves that exist in the average human life experience.

There are some similarities to the popular title Matched by Allie Condie, but it isn't exactly the same.  There's some language but I don't think there's too much.
