Girls Don't Fly

Girls Don't Fly didn't grab my attention right away.  I read maybe 40 pages and though 'nah,' but somehow I got past that stage and devoured the rest of the book.  Girls Don't Fly is a coming of age story about 17 year old Myra and takes place in Utah near the Great Salt Lake (I think).  **Note: this is not a book about Mormons, though they are mentioned.  Myra is dumped by her "perfect" boyfriend and is devastated; not so much that she doesn't enter into a competition against him to win a scholarship to study on the Galapagos Islands.  This tale covers Myra's growing interest in the Islands and also in the world around her.  It chronicles her evolution as she grows up and out of the girl she used to be.  This book contains themes of loyalty, discovery and the desire to change.  There are a few instances of foul language but only here and there.  And not too much teenage angst, just a little.
