Flourless Chocolate Birthday Cake

Well, I made my own birthday cake this year and guess what?  I got exactly what I wanted!  Big surprise there, right.  Good housewives always know how to get what they want.  I first had this cake at my brother's house for some festive holiday/birthday.  I fell in love.  I wanted that recipe.  I would do anything to get that recipe.  Lucky, lucky me it is actually free and available online here!  Yay!  It is so ooey, gooey delicious and terribly bad for you even though it has no flour.

I was very worried here because the batter was about 1/4 inch from the top and I have never filled the cake pan that full.  I feared an overflow!  I even called my mom, to see if hers overflew or not but sadly she wasn't home.  I put it in the oven and hoped for the best.

Here's what it looked like when it came out of the oven.  It did not overflow but I thought my cause for concern was justified since it still looked like it might overflow.  What really happened is that about 30 minutes later, the middle fell in and I scrunched down the sides to make it even.  You won't understand until you've done it yourself.

Here is the finished cake with the glaze.  This is a refrigerated cake so we only put one candle in it.  Needless to say, I was able to blow it out and we'll see if my wish is granted over the course of the next six months.  It doesn't look like much, but I tell you it is worth it's weight in gold, but only if you value chocolate as highly as I do.
