Baby Quilt

I was rummaging around in my boxes of fabric and found a bunch of my baby boy fabric.  I wasn't looking for it so I just ignored it; but then I found out my friend was having a boy.  How convenient!  So I got to work making a type of scrappy "I Spy" quilt.

I started out by drawing a pattern on a piece of paper of what I wanted it to look like.  I wasn't using a prepared pattern so you could say I just made this one up on my own.  I randomly chose blocks (this is what makes it scrappy) and sewed them together.  Here are the strips.

Here it is with the center strips all sewn together.  At this point I added a small blue border but wanted to add a little more to make the blanket a larger square.  So it sat in my room of unfinished projects for about a month until I went to the fabric store to find some suitable border and binding fabric.

Here is the finished product.  I think it is adorable.  Hopefully the baby enjoys the colors and all the different pictures.  I backed it with some flannel and that's it.

And here is a little close up.
