While I was visiting my sister I played a little memory game with my nieces and nephews. It was made of fabric and I recognized the fabric...not too much investigation discovered that my mom had made the memory game. Previous to playing the game we had played a princess memory game made out of cardboard. I noticed that both the 5 and 3 year old could handle the cardboard appropriately, but the 18 month old starting gnawing on the cardboard which would, of course, lead to disintegration (please note that I think this actually is appropriate behavior for an 18 month old).
So I examined the game, asked some questions of my mom and set out to make my own game. It took me the bulk of one afternoon to make 16 pairs for this game (so 32 blocks). I just used fabric I had laying around and this picture contains only some of the matches. The black fabric is the backing for all the squares.
I even made a bag for all the squares so you can clean it up. It is all washable and dryable which is a definite bonus if children are going to be playing this (which they are).
Brilliant. Just brilliant!
