Adventures in San Diego

My husband and I recently went to San Diego to celebrate our fourth anniversary.  It's been a very good four years.  We had both been to San Diego as small children but didn't remember much about it so it was basically as if we had never been there before.   About half of our vacation we spent relaxing and the other half we spent being tourists.  Here are some of the pictures from our fabulous trip.

Of course as a stereotypical Mormon couple, we went to the San Diego Temple.  We spent a few hours inside and then wandered the grounds taking pictures.  It sure is a pretty building but I can't say that the grounds are particularly peaceful since the freeway is right there.

Here is an after sunset picture of Pacific beach right after I had eaten the best lamb burger ever!

I took two bike rides around Mission Bay.  I only took two pictures.  I didn't find San Diego to be particularly beautiful (sorry to any of you die hard fans).  After this trip I realized that my ideal vacation spot is not the beach.

I love sea horses!  Even if they are only representations of sea horses!

We went to the Birch Aquarium and I loved their exhibit on: you guessed it...sea horses!!!  Check out this awesome leafy sea dragon (a relative to the sea horse).  Watch as he floats and moves and meanders.  Did you know that male seahorses get pregnant and give birth, not females?

Being "eaten" by a shark right before we visited the leopard sharks.

For our anniversary day we went to Cabrillo National Monument and visited the Old Point Loma Lighthouse.  That was pretty cool.  We took a two mile bayside trail and were very grateful it was cloudy out since there was no shade.

This is the ocean side of the national monument.  I saw a great big pelican fly by a few times and that was pretty cool.

We also went on an hour cruise of the South harbor and learned all about the naval vessels there.  This is my attempt at an artistic picture of the Coronado bridge with sun and sailboat.  It was very windy out there, but nice.

We spent a day at Balboa Park where I got to see King Tut in the very flesh.  It was very cool...I also got to see all his belongings.  I'm not sure how much of the stuff was real or replicas but the King was definitely real.  I also visited two museums of art, the Japanese gardens, the United Nations house and the Museum of Man.  I also visited the Botanical Building which was gorgeous and full of life.  It was built in 1914 for the 1915 exposition they had there.  All the buildings were very impressive.

The Japanese garden.  I was pretty sore from our hike the previous day so I didn't venture too far into the garden but it seemed nice.

  1. Some great photos. I really liked the video of the seahorses-wow! I feel the same way as you about San Diego, but I still think it's going to be the next destination of our reunion. :-} mom
