Thought of the Sunday 36

So sorry but I am still on a Christmas kick...big surprise since I am working on a Christmas program for our church services in December.

I have been thinking a little of Mary.  I imagine she was a relatively young girl, but she must have been firm in her faith.  She was visited by the angel Gabriel who told her she would conceive a child, the Son of God.  And how did she respond?  With firm faith and willing obedience.  Luke 1:38,  "And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word."  I wonder if Mary knew of the prophecy of Isaiah who foretold that a virgin would conceive and bear a son, Immanuel.  I wonder if she ever in a million years thought it would be her.  How would you respond?  I'm not sure I would be able to be such a willing vessel.  We don't know much about her family, her childhood, or the way she was raised, but I'm sure that Mary was foreordained and prepared for this calling to be the mother of the Son of God.  Our Heavenly Father would not give His Son to one who was not prepared in some way.  Let us remember her unfailing faith and devotion with her willingness to obey the voice of the angel, and, thus, the voice of God.  We can do so likewise.

  1. Good thoughts. I don't think any of us can really imagine what God has in store for us. Mary is a great example of obedience! Thanks for the post-it's always good to remember what Christmas is really about. :-} mom
