I am pretty sure that everyone who reads this blog has at one time lived in an apartment. I lived in a house for almost 6 years and now I'm back to the apartment life. It's not so bad, but there is one thing that is super annoying now that it is getting warmer (it is 96 degrees at this very moment!) and that is that all of the windows leak air and the blinds are super lame. Not only do they look lame, they also don't work to save us from the gleaming light that is the sun reflecting off the white walls within our humble abode.
Laziness being one of the chief characteristics of a housewife, I came up with the swell idea of nailing a piece of fabric to the wall over the window. No need for the power drill, level, tape measure or actually purchasing curtain rods. Who needs all that when you have a hammer and a nail (or three) AND when you have no desire whatsoever to actually use that window. So I found some $2/yard fabric at Joann's and made this wonderful creation:
I think it's fabulous. All I did was pink (that is, use pinking shears) the sides and sewed a little hem at the top. Very exciting stuff. Hopefully this will save us from the glare of the sun as it descends it's daily downward path in the west.
Love the fabric-you may need two layers-that west sun is a killer! :-}
ReplyDeleteI love that you nailed it to the wall! Been there done that. I think it was just a bed sheet or a blanket though, we didn't splurge on fabric. This was when we were in CO though and it was to keep out the cold winter wind that apartment windows are not equipped to handle.
ReplyDeleteClever! Or should I say, du er flink!
