I finally found the energy and motivation to try out a new dress pattern that I already had the fabric for. I thought it would be so cute and wonderful: WRONG! Here is the frumpy Easter dress:
It has gathers in all the wrong places for me. So, after receiving an idea from my mom and immediately shutting it down (because that's what I do with most ideas and I thought it would be too much effort), I thought for a few minutes and decided to go with the idea. That meant I had to undo what I had done...every good seamstress knows that sewing contains both the putting together and the taking apart of items. If you are not happy with putting together AND taking apart, then you cannot be a good seamstress. It's all just part of the fun! Here's what taking out serger thread looks like; you may not be able to tell, but it was a mess.
A good seamstress always knows when to throw in the towel, so here is the finished product. I ended up creating pleats in the front. I'll probably wear it once and never again since I still think it is frumpy. Maybe I'll save it for maternity wear or something like that. I don't know what I was thinking. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. The materials cost me about $7.00 so it isn't too much of a loss.
The pleats are a definite improvement!
ReplyDeleteI love sewing for my kids but hate sewing for myself. I'm always so hopeful but then it always ends up not fitting right or looking less than flattering. Part of my problem is that proportionally speaking my breasts are not as large a size as my waist. So any dress or blouse patterns have to be adjusted to accommodate that.
I'm currently sewing a peasant blouse for my daughter. I thought I was almost done, with just some top stitching to do, when I discovered that the ruffle I had just sew on and finished the edges of, had been sew on inside out. Argh! I guess that's what I get for sewing late at night. I did rip out the seam before I went to bed (My least favorite part of sewing!) but today I don't even want to look at it; I'll leave it for next week.
I hate undoing serger thread. At least it wasn't a rolled hem! I'm glad you don't give up when stuff like that happens. I like sewing but I don't have patience for stuff like that.
