The Survival Kit

Finally I have read a book that I actually want to write about!  It has been almost two months and a succession of semi-good books that didn't inspire me or affect me in any way.  But I just read The Survival Kit by Donna Freitas.  It is about a girl, Rose, whose mother has just died of cancer and how she and her family copes with the loss.  There is some teenage angst but it is understandable under the circumstances.  Rose goes through a major change as she uses her imagination to use the items that her mother left behind for her in a survival kit.  There is also a very satisfying romance.  Other themes included are supporting your family, learning how to make necessary changes, and learning to laugh when you don't think you ever will again.

This book is clean with little language, violence or sex.  I'm sure you can find it at your local library.

  1. Sounds good to me. I finally got Digit and Guilty-you're correct-I was the first one to get them. Got to read them first and then I try this one. I love your recommendations. :-}
