President Monson said this:
"We cannot truly love God if we do not love our fellow travelers on this mortal journey. Likewise we cannot fully love our fellowmen if we do not love God, the Father of us all."
To me this means that maybe, if I'm having trouble loving my fellowmen then I might not totally understand what it means to love God. Can I truly say I love God? Then I should be able to love my fellow travelers as well.
President Monson also quoted Dale Carnegie who said:
"Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime."
The correlation between the two ideas for me is that if I can sincerely say nice things about others, then it is easier to love them. I can see them as they can become and be grateful for my relationship with them now. After reading this talk and these quotes I made a goal to give more sincere compliments to those around me. Sometimes I just keep quiet, but I shouldn't be afraid to give a compliment or say something nice. "Never suppress a generous thought," (President Kimball's wife said that).
Excellent thoughts! I'm going to work on that too. :-} mom
