Everybody needs a new hobby once in a while right? I can't even remember the last time I started a new hobby. It was probably quilting, which I started at the young age of 19. Over the years I have made and created other things, but usually only one or a few...not enough to qualify as a hobby in my eyes. Well, my friends, yesterday I learned how to make earrings. It was fabulous!
My friend offered to teach me the basics so I went over to her house. We sat down and she showed me how to do it on one earring, and then I got to make the other earring in the pair. Here is the first earring I ever made in my whole life. It has a red, green, and clear ball on the end. Consider me hooked.
Then we went to Michael's for supplies and boy was I overwhelmed...there are so many things to choose from. I got my basic supplies and then looked at beads: crazy! I just couldn't decide on anything, while my friend was choosing all sorts of beads. I was thinking, 'wait, wait, wait, let me think about this.' I think since I am new to this I don't have the creative juices flowing, but I know they are in there somewhere. I chose some silver heart beads and some round red beads. My friend gave me some purple beads as well. Here are my first creations:
What do you think? I am debating whether I want to try to start a home business selling crafts. Would something like this sell? My friend wanted a pair right away (which made me feel good) so I made her a pair before I left her house. She got hers for free since she helped create this new monster. All I could think about last night was beads: what kind do I want? what's out there? how can I get more? what should I make? Here comes my new obsession. Hopefully our pocketbooks will survive.
It looks like you didn't have any problems doing this-good for you. I think you may have to be pretty creative to make this a home business-there's a lot of this kind of thing around. However, you have a very creative side to you, so I bet you can come up with some unique designs. You can make me some earrings that have studs-I can't wear the dangle kind. Good luck! from mom :-}
ReplyDeleteThe earrings are very cute! I know several people up in Seattle who go around to different craft fairs selling their jewelry during the spring and summer months. Good luck on your new little adventure! :)
ReplyDeleteI love making jewelry. It's an expensive hobby though. The way I get to do it is by giving them away most of the jewelry away as gifts for sister's birthday or niece's Christmas present. It is thrilling to find a new love isn't it? --Stacie
