"Acting in accordance with the teachings of the Savior invites spiritual power into our lives--power to hear and heed, power to discern, power to persevere. Devoted discipleship is the best and only answer to every question and challenge."
To me this means that when I am obedient to the teachings of the Savior I can receive more spiritual power. What are some of the teachings of the Savior? There are so many: charity, kindness, diligence, humility, patience, obedience, friendliness, service, compassion, keeping the Sabbath Day holy, all the rest of the Ten Commandments, and many more (I'm sure you can think of others). So I know what I should do and if I do it I will receive the ability to continue to be obedient. Through this spiritual power (or the Holy Ghost) I will be able to hear the words of God and follow them. I will be able to know that what I've heard comes from God. I will be able to persevere when things get challenging. And when things do get challenging, the only thing to do is trust in God and be His disciple.
Yet again, I think of Job, who had a pretty tough time of things but he fully trusted in the Lord despite what everyone else was telling him. I also think of the prophet Joseph Smith, who also had a pretty tough time, but he was obedient, and when he needed to repent he did (which is also a way to be obedient). Be firm in the faith even when you have trials.
From the same March Ensign Elder Bradley D Foster said,
"The greatest tragedy is to miss what God wants to teach us through our troubles."
Last night in the Women's General Broadcast President Eyring indicated that our challenges are "perfectly chosen" just for us.
All of this leads me to the firm belief that life is challenging (of course) but that God has given us multiple ways to overcome and persevere through those challenges if we but follow Him and His Son for they have shown us the way to go.
As usual, I love your thoughts on this subject! from mom :-}
