The scriptures help me to gain understanding of how God works in the lives of men. For example, God sent Abinadi, a prophet, to preach to a wicked King Noah and his people. Abinadi did so and was killed for it, but not before he converted one man, Alma, who became a great prophet-leader of many righteous people. God wants to save all His people and He will continue to send prophets for our benefit. He knew how the story would end even if Abinadi didn't. Abinadi trusted in God and I can use that example of trust in my life as I struggle with challenges. This story also teaches me that God will save the one for the benefit of many (there's another story that teaches that God will kill the one for the benefit of many but that's another story).
The scriptures also help me gain perspective. Job lost everything in his trials. He had a most miserable life by our standards. And how did he react? Job 13:15 "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him; but I will maintain mine own ways before him." So no matter what happens to me, I can learn from Job to trust God and have the perspective to know that whatever happens is for my benefit.
The scriptures also give me answers to my prayers. Go back to this thought for a great example of this in my life.
And here is one last thought/scripture that I love from my scriptures. From Moroni 7:33 "And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me." If I have faith I can do whatever God commands. Through Christ I will be given the power and faith to complete the tasks I have been given. As long as it is God's will, I can do it. So trust in Him, believe in Him and go forth with faith in this world. He loves us all and is doing everything He can to bring us back to Him.
