Thought of the Sunday 10

Here is a favorite quote that I first heard a few years ago.  The speaker, Margaret D Nadauld, gave the talk in 2000 and I was in college then so I probably heard it then.  However, I have heard it multiple times since then.  It has to do with the role of women.

"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity."

I use this quote to inspire me to be a better woman.  There are so many bad influences in the world and I shouldn't add to that by being mean or rude or greedy.  When I find myself traveling down the road of these negative traits I try to remember that as a disciple of Christ, I should be tender, kind, loving, virtuous, etc.  Reading this quote helps me see the difference between seeking the good and becoming the not-so-good.  It isn't easy to always be obedient; it is actually quite impossible.  But with the Atonement of Christ and the promise of repentance and forgiveness, I know that we can become the good disciples that we are meant to be.
