Bacon Wrapped Asparagus with Garlic Aioli

Some of you know I am on a weird diet that includes eating no refined sugar and minimal natural sugars.  That means no treats!  And Thanksgiving was just here and Christmas is coming.  What's a girl to do?  Well, she turns to bacon of course!  Bacon is delicious but it isn't very healthy for you, which is why it is a treat for me.  I don't buy it on a regular basis, only on holidays.  Yesterday I made bacon at breakfast time and then made these delicious bacon wrapped asparagus for dinner.  In all, I had 8 1/2 slices of bacon yesterday.  I think it is safe to say I gorged myself on bacon...good thing it was only one day or else I would probably be dead!

So I was looking around the Internet one day and found this treat of a recipe.  Yesterday was my first time making it and it was super easy.  Since I had already made bacon in the morning I was able to make the aioli first using the rendered fats from the morning bacon.  That was nice.  The fat was already solid and that worked fine.  I used store bought mayo but made the rest of it myself.  The aioli itself is sinfully delicious.

Here are the bunches of asparagus all wrapped up and ready to go.

Here I added the olive oil and spices.  I didn't measure the spices since the recipe didn't give any measurements.  I just sprinkled it all over.

After baking and broiling.  I had to make two pans worth because I wanted to use up all my bacon.  These smelled delicious coming out and I just had to try one before we took them over to our Thanksgiving dinner.  I can't let people eat something I haven't tried, can I?

Here is my presentation.  I let each bunch rest on a paper towel to soak up some of the grease but they were still pretty greasy.  Next time I will let them bake a little longer than 20 minutes.  Even after broiling they weren't crispy enough for me.  But everyone enjoyed them at Thanksgiving and there were only six leftover (now three since I had some for breakfast this morning).  This is definitely a keeper for a recipe for the holidays.

I was also assigned rolls for dinner so I made the famous family crescent rolls and people really enjoyed them.  Here they are all in a row, baked and ready to go.
