I finally had some energy to do something so I decided to go for an easy project. I have two pioneer skirts that I made more than ten years ago that I will probably never be able to wear again. They would probably be too big even if I were pregnant with triplets! So I have kept them and lugged them around and thought about getting rid of them, but they are so much fabric and I couldn't just get rid of them! I could totally reuse that fabric! So I finally did something about it. Here is the original skirt with apron attached:
The first thing I did was to cut off the apron, then I cut the skirt in half where the zipper was. I tried to save the zipper for another project but I wasn't being very careful and cut off part of it. Then I cut off the waistline and that left me with this giant rectangle of blue fabric. At this point I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the skirt, whether I wanted to cut it up to make something new or try and finagle something cute with the rectangle. I went online and watched a few things about making wrap-around skirts and decided to go with that.
So all I had to do was make the ties and hem the sides. It was super easy. Here is the finished skirt on the floor.
Here I am wearing the skirt. Most wrap-around skirts are made to wrap around your body one and a half times, leaving you enough give to walk but also being modest with no gaping parts. For this one, I made it wrap around me twice because I wanted to be able to grow into it a little. That makes it a little tight right now, but it'll loosen up soon enough.
Here is the side view. It may not be a totally new and exciting skirt but it is entirely more usable than the skirt it used to be. And I still really like the fabric so I'm hoping to enjoy this skirt often. And I'll only wear my red t-shirt with it on Fourth of July.
