Learning to Fly

Hello blog friends.  I have had a rough week!  I have been able to do many blog worthy things but I haven't had the time to write about them.  That makes me slightly unhappy, but today I have finally found some time to devote to one of my favorite interests: writing and blogging.

I recently finished reading Learning to Fly: An Uncommon Memoir of Human Flight, Unexpected Love, and One Amazing Dog by Steph Davis.  This was a fabulous memoir about a professional rock climber turned sky diver turned base jumper turned all three at once.  Author Steph Davis has a fabulous voice and I loved being a small part of her life.  I will never do the things that she's done but learning about people and their passion and their ability to change is always something worthwhile.  I loved reading her journey from near suicidal to climbing out of the dumps and into the skies to settling into a satisfied life.  I really became attached to her journey and her way of thinking, similar to my own in some ways.  It is really amazing that people are willing to share such stories with the world, if we would take the time to read them.  We don't just have to learn from the people around us, we can learn from total strangers too and that is one thing I appreciate about reading.
