It was Saturday afternoon and I was looking for a new recipe for Saturday dinner. I really shouldn't wait that long since it makes it hard to find a recipe to which I have all the ingredients, but that's how it worked out today. I had ground turkey and wanted to make something with that. I found these spicy turkey sausage patties and I had all the ingredients so I decided to try it out. I wasn't sure if I actually wanted to make patties or just cook it all like ground turkey with vegetables mixed with it. In the end, I made patties.
I followed the recipe nearly exactly but I only had a pound of meat so I just put in a little less of everything else. I almost put in cardamom instead of coriander but I caught my mistake in time. I also added some salt (not very much) because iodized salt is good for pregnant ladies. Here is the meat that will sit for about twenty minutes.
I made patties and I was surprised by all the liquid in the pan. It didn't make much sense to me but I guess it was probably the chicken broth in the meat. They did finally cook but I wasn't happy with the result and it caked a lot of grease on to my pan. Ugh.
Here are the finished patties. At the time I sat down to eat them they were very unappealing. They are pretty spicy and I think they have too much cumin. I wanted them to brown a little more but I think that would've made my pan very hard to clean. I can't say I loved these but I think I might've like them more if I wasn't pregnant. Maybe I should be wary of trying new dishes? I did manage to eat four of them before I threw in the towel. I will eat the rest because they are not that terrible. I think it was mainly because I had been smelling them while they cooked and it wasn't very appetizing.
Yes totally, I couldn't use the crockpot while I was pregnant because after smelling the food all day, all I wanted to do was throw it in the garbage. I remember that smells (like leftover cooking smells) would actually wake me up in the night from a sound sleep. I'm sure there's some purpose for it but sometimes it really just ruins a perfectly good meal...
