Back to Baking

So every good housewife knows the easiest way to roll out cookie dough...even if some housewives have been rolling out cookie dough for 15+ years and just found this method about a year ago.  Here is the picture:

You may be wondering what I am trying to show you.  The trick is this: spray cooking spray onto your counter before throwing the flour down.  The flour then sticks to your counter instead of your cookies sticking to the counter.  So far it's worked out great.  The other trick, for sticky dough, is to set a piece of cellophane on top of the dough and roll away.  This way the dough doesn't stick to your rolling pin.  Or you could roll the dough out with cellophane on top and bottom and forget wasting all that flour just so you can roll out the dough.  Of course, you would be wasting cellophane if you weren't wasting flour: a vicious cycle of waste!

Every good Mormon housewife also knows how to decorate cookies by piping (see below).  Even if it takes a thousand times to get the frosting right and to find the right tip size.  For example, one day a housewife was making mint frosting for her mint chocolate cookies.  She put the frosting into a piping bag and started to make designs only to find that the dough was too stiff!  What now?  A great debate ensued.  Suffer through the stiff dough and possibly break small bones in your hand, or dump all the frosting out of the bag and add more milk?  It was a tough decision but she ended up dumping out all the frosting to add more milk, creating a pretty big mess in the process.  Oh well, good thing "stereotypical" Mormon housewives know how to clean a kitchen.  Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without interestingly decorated cookies.  Here are my finished mint chocolate cookies.
