Quilting

I mentioned before that every good housewife knows how to sew.  Well, she should also strive to cultivate quilting abilities which, I might add, are different from sewing abilities.  For example, ask a seamstress which seam allowance she uses and she will almost always say 5/8" of course.  Ask a quilter and you get 1/4".  So, while some of the uneducated may believe that sewing encompasses quilting, I wouldn't be "sew" sure.  But I will resist my great desire to make a Venn diagram for you.

In addition, those of us who craft know that if we kept everything we ever made, we would need at least two or three houses to accommodate everything.  So to keep my skills alive, I make things and give them away...another good quality for housewives = giving things away.  Below are some trivets that I made for some ladies in my ward.  They are approximately 8 x 8 inches and are patterns that I made up from experience.  They are not hot pads.  They should not be used to take things directly out of the oven.  But they are perfectly acceptable for placing hot items on your tabletop.  As you can see they are Christmas themed.
