Good housewives know the value of a good education. But how do we continue to learn after we leave the hallowed halls of our various educational institutions? For me, I read. And read. And read. How else can you experience so many different cultures, ideas, philosophies, and people without leaving the comforts of your own home? So you may be wondering what a "stereotypical" Mormon housewife is reading these days. Below is the cover of the book I just finished.
See! I told you it was a scary picture. Now I wouldn't recommend it to any other "stereotypical" housewife around, but I really enjoyed it. I did not, however, enjoy the cover. I did not look at the cover and say, "Boy, I can't wait to read this book! How uplifting it will be!" I looked at the cover for maybe 1 second and said, "I don't want to see that picture in my head ever," and promptly turned it over. As I read it, I made sure not to lay the book open to display the cover. This was strictly a bookmark book with the cover side down. I didn't even want other people to see it. Well, I was so struck by the emotions that I felt when I saw the cover that I just had to share it with all of you. How do you feel when you see it?
Now you may be wondering what the book is actually about and why I, a good housewife, would be reading it. Here is a quick synopsis: Time: Not too distant future, Place: England, specifically a juvenile prison called Furnace. Most of the young inmates have been framed for some unknown reason so they are sent to said prison. Atrocities occur (I mean just look at that cover). A newbie wants to get out so he devises a plan to escape. In essence, it is about survival instincts and I enjoyed it. But again, I don't recommend it to any of my readers...read at your own risk.
