I have never cooked with tofu and so I was careful to read the introductory parts as well as mark recipes I was interested in. The first recipe I tried was for Greek salad and smoked tofu. I didn't know what smoked tofu was and the author just said it was a variety you could buy. I couldn't find it at my local stores so while I was near Whole Foods I stopped in and found some Teriyaki garlic smoked tofu and I thought, 'sure, I'll try that.'
Here's all my stuff for prepping. The tofu is marinating in olive oil while the pan gets hot. My shallots are off to the side already cut and my zucchini is right in front waiting for the pan.
This was a desperately easy recipe to follow. Under that pile of deliciousness is a petite whole wheat pita spread with garlic hummus. Then lettuce, tomato, shallots, tofu, zucchini and feta cheese. This was a delicious salad and from 5.5 ounces of tofu I got three salads. I will say that the tofu didn't taste like much so I will try normal (and cheaper) tofu next time. I will also say that if any of the ingredients are omitted it doesn't taste as good. For some reason, for me, I needed to have all the flavors mixed together. I ate some without tomato and it was gross. To be honest, the tofu alone was kind of gross, but eaten together as the salad, it was delicious and I would definitely make it again. There was no dressing of any kind.
My adventures in tofu weren't terribly successful or tasty. Since I off soy, I guess I'll stick to moos, clucks, gobbles, baas and blubs. :-} mom
