"For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
So if I only think of the worldly things and myself (pride), like watching movies, sewing, relaxing, having fun, then that will eventually lead to my spiritual death or separation from God. I won't know who to look for when I need help. I won't receive the blessings of obedience. But, if I think of the things of the Spirit and focus on others, then I can have a life of peace even amid trials and look forward to eternal life with God. It all has to do with perspective and where my focus lies. I am trying to become more like my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ so I should want to do the things that they did. And how do I know what they did? We have the scriptures before us to lead the way.
John 5:19, "...The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."
Christ followed the example of His Father in all things. We have His example before us to follow. Christ was always concerned about others; I should be too. And here is one last thought-provoking scripture that I love:
Mosiah 5:13, "For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?"
Don't let the Savior become a stranger just because we are too involved with the things of the world. Everyone knows that life is busy with work, school, kids, hobbies, church, responsibilities, etc. We should always strive to remember our true purpose in life and the true source of everything we have: the Savior. He has shown us the path and led the way for us. It may be difficult to follow at times but we can submit our will to His and obey. If it wasn't possible, They wouldn't ask us to do it.
I love this thought. Thank you for posting it! I know that if I submit to Heavenly Father's will, that I enable His plan for me to unfold and bless my life. :-} mom
