Thought of the Sunday 2

This year at church we are studying the words and thoughts of President Ezra Taft Benson who was President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1985 to 1994.  He had a lot of nice things to say in the first lesson which is entitled: The Great Commandment-Love the Lord.  Here are some of the quotes that I really enjoyed.

"...we manifest our love for the Lord by our willingness to do the Lord's will."

"Why did God put the first commandment first?  Because He knew that if we truly loved Him we would want to keep all of His other commandments."

"When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives."

"God, our Father; Jesus, our Elder Brother and our Redeemer; and the Holy Ghost, the Testator, are perfect.  They know us best and love us most and will not leave one thing undone for our eternal welfare."

"Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can.  He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace.  Whoever will lose his life in the service of God will find eternal life."

We receive so many blessings when we strive to put God first in our lives.  I love the idea that they won't leave anything undone for our eternal welfare.  God knows exactly how we can come back to live with Him again.  When we put Him first, He will give us the opportunities we need to learn, grow, and become more like Him.  I may not always understand why things happen but I know that God loves all of His children, everyone we see and interact with.  It is easier to rely on Heavenly Father when we remember how much He desperately loves us and wants us to succeed.  So we should actively seek to do the will of God and watch for the blessings we receive because of our efforts.
