An Oriental Style Dress

When my mom and I went to Indiana this fall we went to a great quilt store that had a ton of sale fabrics and clothes patterns for $2.00/yard.  I got a few out of print patterns and this was one of them.  I also bought some sale fabric to make the dress too.  The fabric cost $6 as I recall.

I had a pretty hard time figuring out how to fit this dress and then I cut it out too small so I was very afraid it wouldn't fit me.  I was going to cut out a size 12 but ended up cutting a size 10 (even though I wear a size 6...patterns can be confusing!).   So I used the smallest seams possible and hoped for the best.  Here it is a few days later and finished.  It is actually pretty boring, but I like it and that's what counts.  And now that I've made it, I know how easy it is and could maybe jazz it up next time.  And luckily, it barely fits.  It is a little too snug around the middle but I think it's hard to tell because of the fabric and everything.

Here is a side view with the slit on one side.  I'm sure it would have been a little sexier with the slit a little higher like the pattern intended, but I am not looking for a sexy dress, just a modest one.  We'll see if anyone remarks on it at church this Sunday.
