I have a lot of thoughts and experiences with prayer and I was reminded of them this week when I read in the lesson manual for church this week. The lesson was entitled "Pray Always" and was by President Ezra Taft Benson, President of the Church from 1985 to 1994. Here are some quotes that I particularly liked.
"Thank God we can reach out and tap that unseen power, without which no
man can do his best." To me this indicates that if we want to do our
best in life then we should make prayer an important and regular part of
our life. If prayer is not a regular part of our life then I might question whether our lives are going in the right direction.
"It is soul-satisfying to know that God is mindful of us and ready to respond when we place our trust in Him and do that which is right." I totally agree and have felt that soul-satisfying feeling when God has answered my prayers before. I have prayed and received many kinds of answers. He has helped me answer questions, confirm decisions, receive healing, find things that are lost, change my attitude, and has given me strength to endure when needed. Because of all these experiences, I know that God knows me and is aware of my personal prayers even though He has so many children to take care of. It is amazing to me that He can love and care for us all but I know that He can and does.
"That we will constantly depend upon our Heavenly Father and conscientiously strive to improve our communication with Him is my earnest plea." I liked this quote because it reminds me that I can always improve. As long as I am still breathing and living, then there is room for improvement. I will never be able to check prayer off of my list of things to do because I should always be doing it, no matter how old I am or how faithful I am.
I love prayer. I am so grateful that our Heavenly Father has given us a way to communicate directly with Him. It is a sign of His great love for us.
Thanks for this post. Our lesson was kind of weird, but some good comments were made. Prayer is such a gift-I see its importance more each day. :-} mom
