I'm sure that you might agree with me when I say that most "stereotypical" housewives had a fabulous career before they became so stereotypical. My totally awesome career (that I am a little upset with here because the Pima County Public Library system leaves much to be desired, but that is a rant for another time) is as the coveted Librarian. Don't ask me how I ended up a librarian. It probably had something to do with my parents taking me there every three weeks until I was 14, at which point I got a job there, but who really knows. Maybe it's because I only got accepted to one graduate school? Anyway. I am a reader. I read and read and read (ask anyone who knows me). Going to the doctor: bring a book. Going to a middle school band concert: bring a book but don't forget to look up when your niece is playing. Going on a road trip: bring an audiobook. I think you get the point.
I have been reluctant to recommend books to my fabulous fans because just because I think it's great doesn't mean that everybody else does. I recognize that not everyone enjoys the same things I do. I mean just look at the only book I've
posted so far. However, I have determined that I must share my idiosyncratic reading material.
This week I read a book called
Blue by Joyce Moyer Hostetter. This book is told from the voice of a thirteen year old girl in North Carolina and is about a
polio epidemic that took place there in 1944. It is a clean read and has sub-themes of segregation and the effects of World War II at home in America. The author includes historical background and a long list of other books about polio.
Sounds good to me-I've liked everything you've recommended so far. :-}
