Whole Wheat Cookies

Awhile ago I got a dessert cookbook from one of my favorite quilt stores.  I've only tried a few recipes in it and I haven't tried any of the results so I can't really speak from experience.  I was perusing the book looking for a recipe that included the ingredients I had on hand.  When I saw a cookie that included whole wheat flour, I jumped all over it.  What was even better was that I could use the rest of my molasses in these cookies too.  The name is a little misleading: they are really just soft molasses spice cookies with half whole wheat and half white flour.  They smelled delicious while baking.  I love the smell of spiced baked goods!

I followed the recipe, even when it said to bake these cookies at 400 for 12-15 minutes.  Well, I checked them at 9 minutes and found them burned around the edges.  You can see it in this picture but I didn't think they were burned enough to throw them away.  I did modify the temperature and time to bake at 375 for 8 minutes and that turned out much better.  I added on the crystallized sugar because it looked more appealing that way.

The finished products.  I didn't have a taste tester for these so hopefully they are good enough for people to enjoy at our party.

  1. I like whole wheat in sweets. Well sometimes. I once switched the all purpose flower in blondies for wheat flower and they were pretty good. These look great.
