Thought of the Sunday 5

Here are the words of one of my favorite children's songs in the Church (I have a lot of favorite children's songs) called I Am Like a Star

I am like a star shining brightly
smiling for the whole world to see.
I can do and say happy things each day
for I know Heavenly Father loves me.

This reminded me of a pretty famous scripture found in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

These two ideas help me to remember why I try to do good works every day.  I don't always succeed, but I do try and think of ways to serve others.  As the lyrics say, my motivation is because I know my Heavenly Father loves me.  Because I do know this I want to follow His commandments which include doing and saying happy things (or in my mind doing and saying the right things, being led by the Spirit).  Another motivation is to help other people see God in their lives.  As we serve others, we let them know that someone cares for them.  They can see the power of God in our works and they can see our good examples.  Heavenly Father loves me and I want to glorify Him and I can do that by doing good works and serving those around me.  And those around me are all children of God and deserve to feel His love in their lives.  If I can bring it to them, I hope that I have the determination, boldness, and love to do so.
