The Look

Here is a nice young adult novel that I picked up at my local library (where I get all my good books, of course).  The Look by Sophia Bennett takes place in England in modern times.  It follows the tale of two sisters; one gorgeous and the other seemingly ho-hum.  When the ho-hum heroine of the story gets approached by a modeling agency, she decides (with the encouragement of her sister) to give it a go, just for fun.  The reader gets to follow Edwina, aka Ted, as she breaks into the modeling scene, but it's not all fun and games of course.  At the same time, her gorgeous older sister has been diagnosed with lymphoma and starts undergoing chemotherapy, never a good thing.

This book contains themes of family, loyalty, sacrifice and is a definite coming of age story.  It is funny and serious and has little to no language.  I loved the main character and the decisions she made.  Maybe you will too.

  1. Sounds good. Another book to add to my "to read list." Question. How do you decide what book to read next? Do you have a list? When you see a book and the cover just looks good or do you get suggestions from people? I really like the variety in what you read.
