Thought of the Sunday 6

So it is actually Monday, but better late than never right?  It is pretty gloomy outside, which is odd for the sunny state that I live in.  Normally, a cloudy day is a welcome sight, but today it is making me feel gloomy inside too, which made me think how important light is to me.  I'm talking about both physical light and spiritual light.  Both are important to a successful and happy life.  There is no denying that physical light affects my mood, hence I am gloomy today.  I can only assume that if that is true than an absence of spiritual light would also make me gloomy, or, as I see it, unhappy and without true joy (which is not the same as happiness-a discussion for another post).

Jesus Christ is the light of the world.  John 8:12 says, "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."  So by this scripture I know what source to look for and who to emulate to find the light I seek.

The word of the Lord (scriptures) and the Holy Ghost can also be our guide to finding and keeping light, "For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ. And the Spirit giveth light to every man that cometh into the world...(D & C 84:45-46)."

And here is one last scripture from D & C 50:24, "That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and coninueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day."

I especially like this last one because I believe that all good things come from God.  Therefore, all good things contain spiritual light.  When I recognize that I am seeing good and beautiful things or that good things are happening around me then there is no reason to feel spiritually murky.  The light of God can clear things up as I face the challenges of life.  And I can even experience exponential growth as I accumulate more and more light.  It really seems that God is trying to take care of me by giving me the tools to successfully navigate this life.  I am so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father that has given me so much.
