A Nordic Snowflake

Well I have been busy sewing away but I have been making Christmas presents so I can't blog about them!  Never fear, after Christmas there will be a slew of blog posts about them all.

When I was in Shipshewana this fall I got some adorable fabric that reminded me of a Norwegian gense (or sweater for you non-norsk speakers).  I matched up the fabric with this nordic snowflake pattern and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

Here are all my pieces cut and ready to assemble.

Here is one section.  You can also see how cute the green fabric is.

Half of my snowflake.  This was actually really simple to put together but I am glad I had a pattern to follow.

My entire snowflake finished.

This is actually meant to be a pillow so I quilted the top to make it more durable before I added the pillowcase part of it.  I liked the quilting design so much that I decided to take a picture of it for you.  It's so symmetrical and pretty.

Here is my completed pillow.  The patterns calls for me to use the main fabric on the back to make the pillowcase but I refuse to use beautiful quilt fabric on the back of a pillow, so I used muslin instead.  This means that I might get to make one more pillow out of the fabric, or maybe a little quilt or something.  Very exciting.  This pillowcase is also a little small for my pillow.  It is an 18 inch pillowcase on a 22 inch pillow so it is bursting a little.

Here's a close up.  I was so excited to finish this today.  I love Christmas decorations!
