I love Christmas lights. I love them in my house and on my tree and in the neighborhood. I used to sleep in front of the tree on weekends so that whenever I woke up I could see the lights. I love to go look at lit up neighborhoods and see what cool things people have done to decorate. So, this year, as I drove through my neighborhood at night I decided I wanted to start a new tradition. I wanted to write cards and put them on my neighbors doors thanking them for their decorations and lights. Last night, we followed through!
We spent about 20 minutes writing cards that said things like, "We love your lights!" "Thanks for decorating this year." "Your house looks great! Thanks for sharing" and so forth. We added a Merry Christmas and a sticker and set out through the neighborhood. We walked and it took about an hour and a half for 30 or so houses. We took a few blank cards so that we could write specific thanks for a few houses. And there was one house where the owners came out and we just told them how awesome their house looked. Of course we can only hope that the people get and read these cards and enjoy them, but it's fun to think of how they might react when they see these cards of thanks on their front doors. And it was really nice to take a walk with my husband through the neighborhood.
Great idea! Our last year in AZ we did something similar. We had walked our neighborhood a number of times looking at the lights and we picked out some houses that were our favorite. Then we made Christmas cookies and took them to each of those houses and thanked them for decorating their home. The kids loved it!
