Thought of the Sunday 47

All I am thinking about these days is Christmas.  Of course I think of the worldly aspects of Christmas and enjoy them very much, but I always try to make room for my Savior, who, for me, is the reason we are celebrating in the first place.  President Joseph Fielding Smith was President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the early 1970s.  He had some nice things to say about Christmas and the Savior that I would like to share.  These are all quotes from him.

"It is a day for family and a day for remembering."

"I appreciate the thoughtfulness of those who send Christmas cards.  I regard them as an expression of love and a reminder of the birth of the Savior whom we honor and worship as the head of the church.  His message was of peace and good will."

"There is no story quite as beautiful, or which can stir the soul of the humble quite to the depths, as this glorious story can of the birth of our Redeemer.  No words that man may utter can embellish or improve or add to the eloquence of its humble simplicity.  It never grows old no matter how often told..."

"The true reason for the coming of Jesus Christ into the world...was, first, to redeem all men from the physical or mortal death, which Adam brought into the world, and second, to redeem all men from spiritual death or banishment from the presence of the Lord on conditions of their repentance and remission of sins and endurance to the end of the mortal probation."

I hope you enjoy your Christmas celebrations this week and that in all things remember the Savior and to be grateful for His coming.  Merry Christmas!
