An Upcycled T-shirt

I have a niece and she is adorable.  I buy her clothes because little girl clothes are so adorable!  I can't resist!  So I bought her a t-shirt and she outgrew it; same old story that happens to every kid.  My sister seemed a little down about it because, apparently, my niece always wore the shirt.  So I said she should send it my way and I could see what I could do to salvage it.

Here is the old shirt.

Then I cut out a very large part of the t-shirt to get the zebra because I wasn't sure how I wanted to do it yet.

I decided to cut it down to have a (sort of) even border of pink around the zebra.  You can see the border because the new shirt is not the exact color of the old shirt.  I didn't think this would be a problem; it's still pink after all.

Then I decided to adhere it to the new t-shirt with, you guessed it, wonder-under!  The amazing two sided sticky stuff that makes life easier when crafting and sewing.   Here's what the back of my zebra looked like after I wonder-undered (yes, it's a verb too) it.

Here it is after I bonded the zebra to the new shirt.

And here is the final project with a little zig-zagging as a border to the zebra.  It puckered a little bit but that's the nature of knits along with the uniqueness of upcycling.  It's a 6t so I'm hoping she'll get a lot of use out of it.  And if she still wants to wear it in 3 years or so then I can just do it all over again.
